The only proper way to achieve full flow oil filtering without pressure or flow loss is to plug the pump, use a full flow cover, drill and tap the main oil gallery to return the oil.
The Berg covers are designed to work with any stock VW, 26, 30mm pump, all Berg pumps and any pump that can use a flat cover. Pumps must be plugged and the case drilled and tapped into the main oil gallery to be used for full flow.
Berg covers allow plumbing from the oil pump to a remote mounted oil filter and/or cooler. They are all drilled and tapped 3/8" NPT to match all of our fittings. This area is as short as possible to allow maximum clearance for mounts, pulleys, and tinware so that all fittings fit behind the tinware. Must be mounted with the outlet toward the 3 and 4 cylinder side of the car. We use only cast iron to prevent unwanted pressure losses from wear or improper expansion that an aluminum cover causes. Comes with exclusive Berg copyrighted instructions.
Note: If using on a Type III or 68-71 bus be sure to order the proper cover, relief cover (or full flow kit) from us that has the proper fittings already installed for the best mount clearance. Yes, they are our regular covers, however, require retapping and often extra clearancing must be done to get the fittings to end up in the correct location and to clear everything the best way possible without cracking the cover. Originated and manufactured by Gene Berg from 1972.
GB 241 8mm cast iron cover, all sedan and bus through '67.
GB 241A As GB 241 above, properly modified for Type III (rear mount models require mount modification) with the 90 degree fitting installed and clearance.
GB 241B As GB 241 above, properly modified for the 68-71 bus with the 45 degree fitting installed at proper angle and clearanced for easy installation. Some rear mounts may require slight dimpling - VW made 3 different versions of rear mounts, all different.
